Description: To help the Village of Northport, Michigan increase its canopy coverage, an urban tree canopy assessment was conducted to determine the current land cover. This analysis makes it possible to identify the areas available to plant trees. Further analysis to identify the most suitable locations was also conducted. Each planting location was assigned a priority ranking for stormwater.
Description: With the size of the study area measured at approximately 3.17 square miles, a cost-effective and accurate strategy for assessing the urban forest is the use of remotely sensed and semi-automated classification methods to inventory the current canopy cover and to analyze data for future planting goals.
Description: Using the 2016 tree canopy data, each street segment was buffered by 75ft creating a right-of way corridor that included both the streets and trees along the streets. The area of tree canopy was divided by the total buffered street segment to retrieve a tree canopy percentage. Data was then mapped into five classes and added to the UTC report.
Description: With the size of the study area measured at approximately 1.65 square miles, a cost-effective and accurate strategy for assessing the urban forest is the use of remotely sensed and semi-automated classification methods to inventory the current canopy cover and to analyze data for future planting goals.
Description: With the size of the study area measured at approximately 1.97 square miles, a cost-effective and accurate strategy for assessing the urban forest is the use of remotely sensed and semi-automated classification methods to inventory the current canopy cover and to analyze data for future planting goals.
